What materials do you need to get started?
Anything your family has — handwritten journals, typed histories, old letters, photographs, audio recordings, even notes from interviews with elderly relatives. A single journal is enough for an Ancestor Portrait or One Chapter Film. More material means a richer Life Story Film.
What if our journals are handwritten and hard to read?
That's our specialty. Deciphering 19th-century handwriting is part of the research process. We work from scanned or photographed copies of documents — you keep the originals.
Do I need to already have a family tree or genealogy research done?
No. If you have the documents, we can work from them directly. Having a family tree helps with context, but it isn't required.
What does the finished film look like?
A cinematic documentary — narrated in the ancestor's own words, with AI-generated historical scenes, restored photographs, and period-appropriate music. Think documentary film, not slideshow. Our demo film (based on the C.C. Lee journals, currently in production) will give you the clearest picture.
Can I start with an Ancestor Portrait and upgrade later?
Yes. The Ancestor Portrait fee applies as a credit toward any larger package. It's a natural first step — a finished product that also gives you a preview of what the full film will feel like.
How do I send you the documents?
Digital scans or photos sent by email or a shared folder. We never need the original documents — your family keeps them. We work from copies.
